Welcome to Palenica Białczańska

You are at the entrance to the Białka Valley, at the beginning of the trail leading to Morskie Oko – one of the most beautiful lakes in the Tatra National Park. This is where traditional horse-drawn carriage rides to the Włosienica begin – the furthest point accessible by carriage on the way to Morskie Oko.

Route

The carriage route runs from Palenica Białczańska to Włosienica Glade, approximately 7 km along a road through forested mountain terrain.

The uphill ride takes about 60 minutes.

From Włosienica, it’s just a 1.8 km walk (about 25 minutes) to reach Morskie Oko on foot.

Ticket prices

  • Uphill ride (Palenica → Włosienica):

    🧒 Child under 4 years:: free

  • Downhill ride (Włosienica → Palenica):

    🧍‍♂️ Adult: approx. 70 zł
    🧒 Child under 4 years:: free

Prices: per person, per seat in a shared carriage. The final price depends on the season, number of passengers, weather conditions, and whether the ride is by wagon or sleigh. Therefore, the price for the service must always be confirmed with the coachman before the ride.

Schedule

  • Carriages operate daily, weather permitting
  • First uphill ride: around 7:30 AM
  • Last downhill ride: around 7:00 PM (in summer), or 4:00 PM (in winter)
  • Downhill rides depart on demand depending on tourist needs
  • Families with small children may bring baby strollers on the carriage (free of charge)

Additional information

  • All rides are provided by licensed members of the Association of Carriage Drivers to Morskie Oko
  • The route is strictly approved by the Tatra National Park (TPN)
  • No reservations required – tickets are purchased directly from the coachman on site

Caring for our horses

  • Horses are regularly checked by veterinarians, well-fed, and watered
  • There are three watering points along the route where horses can be given water
  • After each uphill ride, horses receive at least one hour of rest
  • After every course, a fresh pair of horses replaces the previous one
  • Nearly 300 horses are authorized to operate on the route, working on a rotating basis under continuous veterinary supervision
